Can a radiologist diagnose cancer?

A radiologist is a medical doctor with a special training in reading and interpreting imaging results. Based on the image and interpretation, the radiologist will be able to note any findings that are suspicious of being a tumour.

What kind of scan detects cancer?

There are a plethora of scans that are used to detect cancer, with the most common being CT angiograms, Mammograms, Digital Radiograms, Ultrasonography, and Orthopendogram. Sometimes, X-rays are also used.

Does cancer always show on CT scan?

In most cases, a CT scan will always show if there is a tumour, in addition to its shape, size, and the blood vessels feeding into the tumour. Can a CT scan tell if a lymph node is cancerous?

CT Scans are very detailed in their nature, which is why they are a great tool to monitor if a lymph node has increased in size. However, CT scans cannot exactly tell whether tissue is cancerous or not.

Can a CT scan tell if a tumor is cancerous?

CT scans cannot decipher between the nature of a tissue, whether it is cancerous or not. However, they are a great tool to study the change, enlargement, and structure of the tissue to catch anything suspicious. This can then later be investigated further using PET/CT scans that are far more accurate and detailed.
