Nuclear Medicine is a type of medical imaging that provides detailed picture of what is happening inside the body at the molecular and cellular level, where other diagnostic imaging procedure such as X-rays, computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound offer picture of a physical structure, nuclear medicine allows doctor to see how the body is functioning and to measure its chemical and biological processes.
This is a field of medicine which uses very small amounts of radioactive materials (radio pharmaceuticals) to diagnose and treat diseases. The radio pharmaceuticals once introduced into the human body are detected by special types of cameras that work with computers to provide very accurate picture of the organ and area of interest.
Nuclear medicine can also be used for precision treatment in which a radioactive drug compound enters and destroy hyper function part of Cancer cells.
