India accounts for seventeen percent of cancer population of the world, we can say that every sixth cancer patient on this earth lives in India. Out of these seventy percent of the patients reach hospital in very late stage which increases the cost of treatment and still the end results are not very encouraging. Every year 7,00,000 new cases are detected in India and nearly half of these cases die. If we have to control cancer we must detect it at early stage and for that Awareness about cancer, Tobacco Cessation Programme, knowledge about alcohol abuse, changes in life style are powerful intervention strategies.

Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (BMCHRC), Jaipur is a unique Institution which offers “Affordable Care with Human Touch”. Here patients who can not afford to pay for their food are also getting tertiary level of care free of cost. Other patients also get treatment at a cost which is amongst lowest in the country. We all know that treatment for cancer is not cheap rather cost of anticancer drugs and cost of investigations and radiotherapy is very high. But, at BMCHRC, it is kept low with the help of donations provided by K.G. Kothari Memorial Trust. Cancer Care at BMCHRC is voluntary woman organization working under the dynamic guidance of Smt. Anila Kothari who is actively engaged in taking care of patients and fund raising campaign for the poor patients.

This institute is conscious to the fact that affordability should not affect the quality of treatment diagnostic facilities play most important role in maintaining the quality. It has excellent laboratory setup with good Biochemistry, Bacteriology, Histopathology and Cytology Departments, after addition of Tumor Marker and Immunohistochemistry there will be no requirement to send samples out side from this hospital, rather this lab will function as reference laboratory for the region. This is the only hospital which can boast of providing Cobalt Therapy, Brachytherapy and Linear Accelerator Radiation Therapy at one place in Rajasthan.

Our Blood Bank has state-of-the-art facility for blood, components and fractions. To prevent Graft Vs Host Reaction Gamma Cell Irradiator facility also exists. Blood Bank services are available round the clock and caters for needs of other hospitals also. Our Onco-Surgery and Onco-Medicine Departments are very well equipped and the consultants are capable of providing world class treatment without cost escalation.

No institution is complete without creating academic environment and for that post graduate teaching programme ‘DNB’ is conducted in Onco-Surgery, Anaesthesia, Radiotherapy and Pathology. To maintain highest standard of patient care Tumor Board Meeting and Mortality Meeting are conducted regularly, where each case is discussed threadbare for modality of management and also discuss what has gone wrong and where and how to ensure that it does not happen again.

No hospital can be called a good hospital unless it can provide good nursing care. To improve the standard of Nursing Care BMCHRC College of Nursing is starting M. Sc. Nursing and Post Basic Diploma in Oncology Nursing, both these courses will be first of its kind in Rajasthan.

We are aware of our social obligations and in addition to providing free care to BPL patients, 4 – 5 Medical camps are organized every month to increase awareness about cancer and to diagnose disease at early stage. Patients registered in the camp also get free cancer treatment in the hospital.

Soon BMCHRC will start Tele-Oncology facility where patients can get institutional level of advise sitting in their villages, we plan to connect this with “Mobile Cancer Care Van” and also to District Hospitals at later stage.

To keep pace with modern technology and to make information about this hospital and about cancer readily available this website has been launched. This website will provide general information about cancer, policies and procedures followed at this hospital and how to avail benefits of Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and soon we will respond to your specific questions about cancer and related issues (FAQ’s).
